VIS Supervision Coordination Group

In order to ensure supervision coordination for the Visa Information System, representatives of the national data protection authorities and the EDPS meet usually twice a year. The national Data Protection Authorities ('DPAs') represented are those of the 28 EU Member States, with Ireland and the United Kingdom participating as observers. Additionally, the national DPAs of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are part of the group, as their countries participate in the system as well. The Group is currently chaired by the Swiss DPA, with the Greek DPA as Vice-Chair.

Members of the Group cooperate and meet at least twice a year to:

  • Share its experiences;
  • Discuss problems regarding the interpretation or the application of the SIS II legal framework;
  • Analyse difficulties regarding the supervision or the exercise of the rights of data subject;
  • Assist each other when carrying out audits and inspections;
  • Draw up harmonised proposals for joint solutions and promotes awareness of data protection rights.

A joint report of activities shall be sent to the European Parliament, the Council, the Commission and the Management Authority every two years.
