It is worth knowing... how to use ICT in school to protect personal data – online workshop

How to prepare interesting classes with students of different ages on the key principles of personal data protection? Answers to this question were provided by the workshop for teachers organized by the Personal Data Protection Office. The meeting, which took place on January 31, 2022, was an event accompanying the conference "Personal Data Protection on a Daily Basis", which was organized as part of the 16th Data Protection Day.

The Personal Data Protection Day is intended to emphasize how valuable privacy is and what value personal data has gained in the modern world. This day provides also an opportunity to reflect on how to safely use technology. This was the idea of the organizers of the past online workshops for teachers representing schools participating in the 12th edition of the "Your data – Your concern" program. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the Computer Assisted Education and Information Technology Centre in Warsaw (Ośrodek Edukacji Informatycznej i Zastosowań Komputerów w Warszawie).

The aim of the workshop was to introduce the subject of competitions planned by the Personal Data Protection Office for schools and students by preparing teachers to organize interesting classes with students of different ages on the key data protection principles . The main topic of the workshop was carried out with the use of ICT, based on the "It's worth knowing..." series of advice developed by the Personal Data Protection Office. The advice includes practical tips on how to protect your personal data and use digital tools safely.

The issues discussed by the speakers, Marta Mikołajczyk, the coordinator of the "Your data – Your concern" program, and Marta Wnukowicz and Izabela Rudnicka, Computer Assisted Education and Information Technology Centre, included the following topics:

  • It's worth knowing... about the protection of personal data – a series of advice and planned competitions for program participants;

  • We protect our image on the Web – we create our own avatars;

  • ICT tools for easy presentation of content related to personal data protection and online security;

  • Towards a podcast – we learn to create voice messages about online security.
