Webinar on technical safeguards for processed personal data

In September 2022, the Personal Data Protection Office is planning to hold a webinar on technical safeguards for processed personal data. We encourage you to ask questions on this topic, which will be answered during the event.

According to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), one of the basic obligations of the controller is to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of the processed data and the compliance of its processing with the provisions of the Regulation.

Controllers must also continuously check the effectiveness of the safeguards already in place, as the use of an untested solution can firstly eliminate its value, and secondly, it can give a false sense of security and can result in the omission (non-detection) of a critical vulnerability, which, if used, will cause very negative consequences. In particular, it can lead to a data breach.

Therefore, it is important that the application of safeguards be an ongoing process rather than a one-time implementation. This makes it possible to identify new vulnerabilities in the systems in use, i.e. weaknesses or gaps in security that were not known when the solutions in question were launched.  Exploitation of such vulnerabilities by so-called cyber criminals can disrupt the functioning of, for example, a given system, or lead to incidents or personal data breaches.

The webinar on the topic of technical safeguards for personal data processing will be a continuation of last year's webinar, during which the topic of "Notification of personal data breaches in practice" was raised.

We invite controllers and data protection officers to ask questions, which will be answered during the event. Questions should be of a general nature and not refer to solutions offered and implemented by specific manufacturers or suppliers.

Questions in text form can be sent to web092022@uodo.gov.pl by August 1, 2022, 10:00 a.m. with the note "Webinar: Technical safeguards for processed personal data".

Please, note that messages containing links or attachments typical of malicious scripts, including files with extensions used by vulnerable applications, may be blocked.

The exact date of the webinar and the link to the conference will be published in a separate announcement.
